When you have an issue with your feet or lower extremities, such as the ankles, this can affect the way you hold yourself upright and walk. Thus, if you are experiencing such problems, turn to Fanno Creek Chiropractic today.
What Is Pronation?
Pronation is the way your feet and ankles move when you walk and how the motion from heel to toe is executed. Normal pronation is a relatively straight line from the heel to the toe during walking, with an even distribution of weight throughout the process of stepping.
If you over pronate, the line from heel to toe is skewed toward the inside of the ankle, creating more pressure and movement on the big toe side of the foot. Inversely, if you under pronate, the motion is toward the outside or little toe side of the foot.
How the Feet Affect the Rest of the Body
If your lower back starts to become painful and cause problems, we'll first look at your feet, taking note of how you walk and where the pressure is distributed.
When the foot is not moving correctly, the rest of the body has to compensate to keep upright and move forward. For example, pain in the middle of the low back can be caused by a stubbed toe.
In chiropractic medicine, we can diagnose problems and suggest orthopedics and therapy as well as adjustments to the foot bones themselves to assist in correcting subluxations (partially dislocated bones), which might be creating problems elsewhere in the body.
Correcting Over or Under Pronation
In young children, as they are learning to walk, over or under pronation will cause their muscles to tighten and eventually shorten. This can cause problems later in life - such as lower back scoliosis, where one hip is higher than the other - all of which adversely affects the rest of the body all the way up the spine.
Over or under pronation can be corrected and is only one of the many ways we can help you live a healthier, happier life. Thus, if you or a loved one is experiencing issues with lower back pain, hip pain, popping hip joints, knee pain, etc.,
